Aviation Academy Flying Mission Offers
A two year Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme for candidates who have successfully completed secondary education. The course is divided into 31 interrelated study modules:
AIRCRAFT MAINTENACE ENGINEERING PROGRAMME
The purpose of aircraft maintenance engineering qualification is to equip graduates with advanced knowledge, skills and competencies to:
- Interpret Aviation Regulations in order to facilitate compliance with Aviation Statutes.
- Maintain, inspect and repair Aircrafts and its associated components in accordance with requisite Aircraft Maintenance Manuals and Documents
- Restore the aircraft to an airworthy condition in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) Rules and Regulations as well as other relevant local and international standards and recommended maintenance practices.
The aircraft maintenance engineering programme offered by Aviation Academy Flying Mission is crafted to cover fundamental features of aircrafts, being; Airframe, Powerplant and Avionics
Key stakeholders that play a significant role in the development, certification, evaluation, audit, quality control and endorsement of the programme are; Engineering Registration Board, Botswana Qualifications Authority, Civil Aviation Authority Botswana and Human Resource Development Council as well as the Department of Tertiary Education Financing as the main sponsor to the majority of the students.
The Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering programme takes 2 years to complete and is structured into four semesters of six months each. The entire training programme is divided into 31 modules which have to be passed with a minimum of 70%.
The learning programme is structured as follows;
- Year One Semester One
The semester has 8 Modules, that is Modules 1 to 8, covering the following subjects;
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Aerodynamics
- Air Regulations
- Engineering Drawing
- Maintenance Human Factors
- Life Skills
- Safety, Health & Environment
- Year One Semester Two
The semester has 7 Modules, that is, Modules 9 to 16 covering the following subjects;
- Basic Electricity
- Aircraft Materials & Processes
- Alpha Programme
- Fire Protection System
- Aircraft Electrical System
- Aircraft Weight & Balance
- Welding
- Year Two Semester One
The semester has 8 Modules, that is, Modules 17 to 24 covering the following subjects;
- Navigation & Communication Systems
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Power Systems
- Aircraft Structures
- Landing Gear System
- Airframe Fuel system
- Cabin Atmosphere Control
- Ice & Rain Protection System
- Helicopters
- Year Two Semester Two
The semester has 6 Modules, that is Modules 25 to 31 covering the following subjects;
- Reciprocating Engines
- Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines
- Aircraft Rigging & Assembly
- Aircraft Propellers
- Aircraft Documentation & Inspections
- Industrial Attachment
The total learning programme credits are 277.
TUITION FEE
The tuition fee for the entire aircraft maintenance engineering programme is Forty Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Pula (P40, 750) per semester exclusive of the learning materials such as toolkit, books, protective clothing etc.
Career Prospects and Pathways
The holders of this qualification are able to work in the Aviation Industry as: Aircraft Mechanic, Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Quality Assurance Manager, Safety Management Manager, Aircraft Maintenance Planner, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Officer, Safety, Health and Environmental Officer, Aircraft Documentation and Records Management Officer, Maintenance Control Officer etc.
A student after graduating from the AME programme can work at enterprises that manufacture aircrafts and components, clubs for flying, airlines that fly domestically or internationally, Civil Aviation Authority, Approved Maintenance Organisations, Approved Training Organisations, and governments departments that possess aircrafts.
In order to be eligible for admission into the AME programme, a candidate must have BGCSEs or equivalent, with a minimum of a Credit in Physics, Mathematics and English. Mature entrants with relevant practical experience, may be considered on merit.
The school management may recommend some applicants to be subjected to initial evaluation to ascertain eligibility prio to acceptance onto the programme.
